SNK has started this series since 1994 with the Neo*Geo
and since then, it has moved along many other platforms.
The latest incarnation is actually KoF 98; giving
this game a 99 year is unknown to me. Does this
game play better than its previous games?

        Graphics- 8
Ahhhh, good old 2D. Although the characters are
two-dimensional, some of the backgrounds have a 3D
appearance, some are even a mixture of 2D and 3D. Even
though this games doesnt look like anything Capcom
has done, because the characters are pixelated around the
edges, the characters still move fluidly without any
        major slowdown.

        Sound- 8
I hate the fact that the game has to load the music every
time a new round starts. The DC has more than enough
memory to hold the themes for the characters and the
sound effects. The sound effect can be off sometimes, but
its not noticeable unless you are actually looking for
        the skips.

        Gameplay- 7
*sigh* I wish SNK could have done more to this game since
it has no endings for the individual characters or the
preset teams. Instead they added still pictures during
the credits. I can kinda see the reason why they did that
because this game is actually Kof 98 and that games
was really a special edition of Kof 94-97. The game
has a more than enough characters to suit your
        bum-rushing needs although the hidden
characters are just earlier versions of the character.
There is nothing much you can do with this game aside the
fact that with the Neo*Geo Pocket Color and King of
Fighters R-2 you can link them up together. By linking
them up you supposedly, Ive never tried it, can
        upload your custom made character and play as him;
picture galleries are also opened up this way.

        Value- 8
If you are a graphics whore you shouldnt pick up
this game, but if you are looking for a fighter with lots
of variety, then give this game a try. Maybe you would
want to pick up the other years as well.

Final Rating- 8.5 (out of 10)
        Since this game isnt a
gotta-but-it-now! kind of game, I recommend
either renting it or borrowing it from a friend.
